This year, everyone’s favorite crime-fighting canine is heading back on stage for a wonderful musical ride. As best buds George and Harold think it’s time to level up and write a musical. After years of writing comics, these fifth graders want to dive into something new. As Dog Man heads out for another day of crime-biting adventure, the whole family is up for an amazing musical ride of chasing villains and seeing the part-man part-dog character chew some furniture on the side.
Last year, TheaterWorksUSA unveiled a pair of musicals that invites families for a day of whimsical adventures with their favorite characters. They kicked off theatrical runs for DOG MAN: THE MUSICAL and CAT KID COMIC CLUB: THE MUSICAL, which tons of families saw since they began hitting the stage for a 2024-2025 season of shows.
“It’s gratifying to watch young people and families respond to these two clever, funny musicals the way they respond to Dav Pilkey’s remarkable books which celebrate kindness, individuality and fearless creativity,” Barbara Pasternack, TheaterWorksUSA Artistic Director shared in a press release.
DOG MAN: THE MUSICAL, based on Dav Pilkey’s worldwide bestselling book, follows a tale of best buds George and Harold wanting to try creating a musical after writing comics for a couple of years now. The hilarious & heartfelt adventure will follow Dog Man’s mission to save the city from Flippy the cyborg fish and an army of Beasty Buildings, catch Petey the evil cat, and many more twists as the best buds try to finish the show before lunchtime strikes. It’s an epic live-stage adventure that packs the hilarity, charm, and heartwarming vibes that Pilkey’s work had always shared.
The live show is written by Kevin Del Aguila and Brad Alexander. The pair collaborated on the Emmy Award-winning “Peg + Cat” on CBS. They’ve also written other live shows for TheaterWorksUSA, including “Click, Clack, Moo,” and “Clifford The Big Red Dog.”
Coming to you LIVE at the Toyota Oakdale Theatre, the whole bunch is all set to light up the stage with crime-biting adventure. The venue’s large stage, high-tech lights & sounds, and comfy seating makes it the ideal place for a musical.
