Moulin Rouge – The Musical at Toyota Oakdale Theatre

In the first stages of its conception, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to meet high expectations of exceeding or no less than being at a matched level with the previous movie of the same name. As viewers can attest to, Moulin Rouge in Broadway has ensured that it is here to stay with an immensely positive reception from both fans and critics alike. The musical's narrative itself is a rollercoaster with extreme emotion focused on Christian and Satine, an American writer moves to Montmartre to jumpstart his career as a writer and composer, and a performer in the Moulin Rouge nightclub, respectively. They begin a secret affair as they become more acquainted with each other, and it is in their affair that they endanger themselves because of a jealous benefactor, though fate continues to bring them closer together.

In the duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the entire show, this story is presented mostly through song and dance, with unbelievable arrangements from the creative team, which is a mixture of mash-ups, medleys, and even songs from the 2001 film. Manchester Media Group reported that the play is “an experience for the senses as soon as you arrive.” From choreography to the jawdropping musical accompaniments, the musical’s brilliance is very evident; add to that the fact that even the cast is composed of singer heavyweights including Aaron Tveit and Karen Olivo performing the roles of Christian and Satine and you have a worldwide phenomenon on your hands.
